PIT/SAGGER FIRED

These pieces are usually hand built, using coils. Sometimes burnished or terra sig is added, then the pieces are biscuit fired. A second firing takes place in either a small brick kiln or a metal garbage can. - watch the fire burn for about 3 hours, wait until morning when the kiln has cooled and be surprised!
GLAZED PIECES FIRED AT CONE 5

glazed and fired again either in raku firing or a regular cone 5 glaze firing.

Raku Fired Pieces
A raku firing starts with a piece that has been biscuit fired. Using special glazes often with a metallic finish, the piece is put into a hot kiln for about 40 minutes. It is taken out of the kiln when it is glowing red and put into a covered container full of carbon producing materials (leaves, paper). This gives the unglazed surfaces the distinct black look of a raku piece.
